E3 Consulting assists in financing
of award-winning sludge-to-fuel process by EnerTech
DENVER, CO – E3 Consulting provided environmental, technical, regulatory, and financial consulting to EnerTech Environmental Inc. and its lenders in support of the nation's first sludge-to-fuel facility using EnerTech's novel SlurryCarb™ process. EnterTech planned, and is currently building, the SlurryCarb™ facility in Rialto, California.
The SlurryCarb™ process, which converts municipal sewage sludge (biosolids) into a renewable fuel alternative, was named runner up in the Environmental category of this year's Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Awards. More than 800 innovations were submitted, and only four percent received honors or awards.
Scheduled to open in late 2008, EnerTech's first commercial facility is expected to convert approximately 700 wet tons per day of treated municipal biosolids into about 145 tons per day of E-fuel, which will be sold to a local cement kiln as a coal alternative.
"The process of permitting, financing, planning and then building a facility employing this innovative technology required significant effort and expertise by all the parties involved in the project," commented Paul B. Plath, Senior Vice President at E3, biofuels expert and project leader on the EnerTech Rialto project. "We are proud to be able to support EnerTech with completion of this award-winning project, which will provide major benefits to the five Los Angeles-area sanitation districts that are participating in the project."
EnerTech's patented SlurryCarb™ process cleanly and economically converts biosolids and potentially other high moisture wastes into a high-grade renewable fuel with significant cost savings over alternative methods. The resulting renewable fuel is in many cases suitable for the direct replacement of coal, coke and other similar fossil fuels.
"This is an exciting time for us and we are very pleased with E3's role in helping us to complete this project," said Kevin Bolin, EnerTech President and CEO, referring to the Wall Street Journal honor. "Receiving an award such as this serves to emphasize the importance of developing environmentally friendly solutions to old challenges such as biosolids management. Green technologies and renewable energy innovations such as the SlurryCarb™ process are the key to a sustainable future."
